ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida launched the Center of Excellence in Hypersonic and Space Propulsion, also known as the HyperSpace Center for short. University leaders, along with leaders of the U.S. Airforce came together for the celebration Wednesday.
The HyperSpace Center will advance the research and innovations of world-renowned faculty members like Dr. Kareem Ahmed, a professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, whose team has received multiple Department of Defense grants to develop hypersonic technology.
UCF President Alexander Cartwright spoke at today’s ceremony at the new center in the Central Florida Research Park, adjacent to the UCF main campus.
“What we create here and across UCF will define the aerospace and defense industries for generations,” Cartwright said. “UCF has always been an institution that recognizes no one builds the future alone.”
The U.S. Department of Defense is providing more than $20 million in funding to support Dr. Ahmed’s research.
