EUSTIS, Fla. – A suspect was taken into custody Saturday following a shooting that left three people hurt the prior night in Eustis, according to police.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. to a shooting reported out of the 600 block of Kensington Street, the Eustis Police Department said in a news release.

Out of three gunshot victims located at the scene, one of them was struck by fragmentation and suffered minor injuries, another victim was struck in her upper-right leg and was taken to Waterman Hospital, and a third victim who had been shot multiple times was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition, police said, adding it’s believed he’s going to make it.

A warrant was issued for the suspect — Gary Davis, 46 — who was taken into custody on Saturday. Davis faces charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm in public and three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to Eustis police Chief Craig Capri, Davis got out of a car and “came right up with the gun” before the shooting, describing the victim who was airlifted as Davis’ alleged target.

“It appears that our main victim, with the most serious injuries, was the target,” Capri said at a news conference. “(...) You have other people that are just there at the location, minding their own business. They get hit. And you know, you have a crowd of people, and you got somebody firing into a crowd; unfortunately, people are going to get hit with bullets, and as we see here today, unfortunately, we had three people shot.”
