Investigators explained that a van had been driving south on I-75, but it veered off the road into the grassy median. The van driver then “overcorrected” to the right, which caused the van to drive back onto the roadway.

According to troopers, the van drove across the southbound lanes and into the merge lane entrance from State Road 326, forcing a semi-tractor-with-trailer behind the van to veer right to avoid crashing.

However, the semi-tractor ultimately did crash into the right side of the van, and both vehicles came to a final rest on the west shoulder of the highway, the release shows.

“There were two unidentified passengers taken to the HCA Ocala Hospital in critical condition,” the release reads. “One of the passengers from (the van) was pronounced deceased on scene.”

Meanwhile, troopers said that the van driver suffered serious injuries, though the semi-tractor driver sustained only minor injuries.

The crash scene has since been cleared, but no additional information has been provided at this time.
