ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – As Thanksgiving approaches, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office brought the spirit of giving to life with its annual Turkey Giveaway.
This cherished tradition aims to ensure families in need have the means to enjoy a festive holiday meal.
The giveaway, held Saturday morning at the sheriff’s office’s Centrals Operations Center, saw hundreds of families lining up to receive turkeys. Deputies, volunteers and community partners joined forces to distribute the turkeys with a smile.
“This is what being part of the community is all about,” said Orange County Sheriff John Mina. “Helping those who need it most and spreading joy during the holidays is an honor for us.”

With rising food costs, the event couldn’t come at a better time for many families. Recipients expressed their gratitude for the support.
“This means so much to my family,” said Tony, an Orange County resident who attended the giveaway. “Times are tough, and this really helps us celebrate Thanksgiving the way we want to.”
According to the sheriff’s office, 600 turkeys were given out Saturday, along with some measure of Thanksgiving fixings.
“This isn’t just about providing a meal—it’s about building connections and showing that we care,” Mina said.
The sheriff’s office is already looking forward to continuing the tradition next year. Its next giveaway will be the “Shop with a Cop” event in December.
