‘Going to take time:’ Edgewater hosts town hall for flooding concerns

EDGEWATER, Fla. – As Edgewater continues to deal with stormwater and flooding issues in residential neighborhoods, city leaders hosted a special town hall Monday night to hear directly from impacted homeowners.

Residents expressed their frustrations and shared personal stories, hoping for swift action.

Ainsley Sigler, one of the residents, described the devastation she faced from flooding during Hurricane Milton.

“My lovely in-laws have let us live in their camper. So we’ve been living in a camper with our two dogs. It was a very traumatizing event,” Sigler said.

Sigler shared video footage she recorded inside her flooded home in the hours following Hurricane Milton. She attended the meeting to voice her concerns to city officials, including Edgewater Mayor Diezel Depew.

“This is the first home we’ve ever bought,” Sigler said. “We’d probably lose money if we went to sell it tomorrow, and that’s going to be tough at 23 years old.”

Flooding has been an issue in Edgewater’s Florida Shores neighborhood, with problems arising even before Hurricanes Helene and Milton. In a prior meeting, homeowners and city council members discussed implementing a building moratorium to address the situation.

Norm Haich, another Florida Shores resident, said his property also flooded and acknowledged that solutions will take time.

“Everybody wants it done yesterday,” Haich said. “It’s just going to take time. They know all our problems. I think a lot of it’s the building.”
