“Well it means a lot because obviously now I don’t have to go to the store and go figure one out and so that helps a lot because you know buying everything else can be pretty expensive so that really helps out a lot,” said Orange County resident, Garth Peters.

Peters picked up his turkey from the Walt Disney World Clubhouse in Pine Hills on Saturday. He said the turkey giveaway is good for the community.

“You can’t beat that because you know a lot of people, they’re experiencing hard times all the time,” Peters said. “Groceries are always high and stuff so just having the turkey you know free from you guys is just a big deal.”

Murray said he’s amazed at how everyone has come together to help him on this mission.

“I was a little apprehensive at first, like are we going to be able to accomplish this? Are we going to be able to get the money to do this,” Murray said. “So, every day I’ve been amazed at how efficient, how many turkeys we’ve been able to get. How every time I would get down to $2 – I don’t have any more money – and then all of a sudden, $500 shows up, $300 shows up, I got some more shopping to do.”

President and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs for Central Florida, Jamie Merrill, said it takes a village to serve a community.

“Locking arms with these incredible partners is exactly what we do,” Merrill said. “So, seeing the success and him surpass the goal, and also partnering with us as a part of that goal that he wants to give back to these kids and these families is exactly what we’re all about so we’re very thankful.”
