ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was arrested after a minor crash last week led to a shooting in Orlando, according to the police department.

In a release, police said the incident happened on Nov. 18 at around 2:30 p.m., which is when officers responded to the reported shooting near Yucatan Drive and Roberto Clemente Road.

The release shows that witnesses told dispatchers they had heard several gunshots nearby and saw the suspect — identified as Edgardo Dejesus, 56 — pointing a gun at a man lying on the ground.

“When officers arrived at the scene, Dejesus complied with their orders and was taken into custody,” the release reads.

Investigators said they learned that Dejesus’ truck had been involved in a “minor collision” with another car a few miles away near Lake Underhill Road, which caused Dejesus to pursue the other driver.

Upon reaching Roberto Clemente Road and Yucatan Drive, Dejesus yelled for the driver of the other vehicle to stop, and Dejesus then got out of his own car armed with a gun, police said.

According to officers, the other driver began to turn around in the opposite direction, and Dejesus shot at the vehicle, hitting it twice.

Afterward, the other driver crashed into a ditch and ran from the scene, though a passenger in that vehicle remained and was “confronted” by Dejesus, the release states.

“In addition to pointing a gun at the victim, Dejesus demanded that the passenger stay on the ground while placing his foot on his abdomen,” the release reads. “During the altercation, Dejesus also took the victim’s phone and struck him on the head.”
