Pine Hills nonprofit helps feed formerly incarcerated for Thanksgiving

Two Fold H.E.L.P. Ministries is providing a Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings to over a dozen people in their re-entry program, aimed at rehabilitating those formerly incarcerated or struggling through hard times.

Many of the men gathered are experiencing their first Thanksgiving meal in years.

Carnell McNeally noted it was his first proper Thanksgiving meal since the 1990s.

“Some people deserve more, but I think everyone deserves a second chance,” David Sykes expressed.

Co-owner Linda Chisholm, who has personal experience with incarceration, highlighted how meaningful it is to provide such a feast.

“Being inside myself and knowing that the food there is not like the food at home to knowing that you will have a great Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings does a lot for a person,” said Chisholm.

Javonte Workman, who was formerly homeless, expressed his appreciation for the program, saying the sense of community helps them maintain a positive mindset despite their struggles.

“Having little meetings like that interaction with one another and it, and things, I got this, you know, helps us keep a positive mindset — everything we’ve been going through. We still have. We still have blessings. Coming our way and good things too,” said Workman.

Chisholm hopes to secure community donations to host a similar event for Christmas, with the addition of gifts for participants.
