Seminole County woman stabbed to death by estranged boyfriend who later died in a crash, sheriff says

Stabbing occurred early Friday

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A Seminole County woman was stabbed to death by her estranged boyfriend after she went on a date with another man, Sheriff Dennis Lemma said Friday — the same day the suspect was supposed to be in court for battery charges against the victim.

That boyfriend later died in a rollover crash in the Christmas area.

Kristin Stevens, 40, was killed Thursday night. Lemma said James Christopher Lindsey, 42, broke into her home near Chuluota, jumped on Stevens and stabbed her dozens of times after she went out on a date with a man she met on a dating app.

The man tried to stop Lindsey but he was also stabbed. He was able to get to a nearby home to call 911. He is expected to recover.

A 911 caller told dispatchers the man “went to protect the wife, but he got stabbed by the assailant, the ex-husband.”

“Pray for the wife,” the 911 caller said.

Lemma said Lindsey then fled the house and died in a rollover crash along Fort Christmas Road Friday morning. He was going 100 mph.

“There’s a pretty significant bend where that is,” Lemma said. “It’s likely he was fleeing in excess of 100 mph and was not anticipating that bend, took the vehicle off the road and was ejected from the vehicle. He was located at that scene.”

Lemma said Stevens and Lindsey were in an 18-year relationship but never married. Lemma said the couple had a history of domestic violence, including a Nov. 6 arrest for battery against Lindsey.

An injunction was filed against Lindsey on Nov. 20. He was forced to turn in 21 firearms and ammunition, and was given a $1,000 bond.

Lemma said his agency also requested Lindsey be fitted for an ankle bracelet, but a judge denied that request.

He was supposed to be arraigned in court Friday for the Nov. 6 arrest.

A GoFundMe was set up to raise money for Stevens’s teen son and to help push for domestic violence awareness in legislation. If you’d like to donate, click here.
