This marks the triumphant return of a movie theater to the area, which had gone without one for nearly five years. The previous theater, located at the same spot, closed after sustaining extensive storm damage. Now, under new ownership, Satellite Cinemas has brought back the magic of the silver screen—and so much more.

“The community reaction has been surprisingly good,” said Samuel Gravelle, a manager at the independently owned Satellite Cinemas. “We were worried that attendance would be slower after the grand opening, but we hit our best numbers two weeks ago for Moana 2 and Wicked.”

Located at 1024 Highway A1A, the renovated theater has drawn crowds from across the barrier islands. Many residents have expressed relief at not having to drive 30 minutes to the nearest theater. In the three months since opening, the cinema has welcomed thousands of moviegoers, making it a lively addition to the area’s entertainment scene.

The theater, originally built in the 1950s, underwent a complete transformation before reopening. Its modern amenities and welcoming atmosphere have been key to its early success. Here’s what’s drawing people in:

Four theaters with all-new seating: Each theater features a combination of standard rocker seats and luxury recliners. The recliners, available for a $2 upcharge, offer assigned seating, while the rocker seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Affordable pricing: With adult tickets starting at $9.50 for standard seats and $11.75 for luxury recliners, the theater provides a cost-effective option for families and individuals alike. Discounts for seniors, military personnel, and children add to the value.

Free refills: Unlimited popcorn and soda refills with every purchase have proven to be a hit with moviegoers.

Beyond showing the latest blockbusters, Satellite Cinemas has quickly become a versatile space for the community. The theater has hosted birthday parties, school events, and even corporate seminars. Birthday packages, starting at $375 for up to 25 guests with unlimited popcorn and soda, have been especially popular.

“The community’s interest in the theater is everything we hoped for,” Gravelle said. “It’s excellent, we’re very happy with the response.”

With its official grand opening behind it, Satellite Cinemas is already hosting community events. This Sunday, the theater will host a free admission showing of The Polar Express at 12 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Tickets will be sold on a first-come first-served basis.
