ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man died Wednesday evening after shooting himself during a traffic stop in Orange County that stemmed from a stolen car investigation, according to sheriff’s officials.
The traffic stop happened around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Chapel Trace Drive and North Goldenrod Road.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to assist the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in locating a stolen vehicle.
“Osceola County’s helicopter was overhead and watched the vehicle pull into the entrance of the Chapel Trace Apartment and observed four suspects – two men and two women - exit the stolen vehicle and enter what was determined to be a rideshare vehicle,” a release said.
Orange County deputies attempted a traffic stop on that vehicle when one of the men shot himself inside the car, the sheriff’s office said. The man, only described as being in his 20s, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The three other people who entered the vehicle were taken into custody, and no one else was injured.
