According to Mega Millions, it’s the seventh time in the game’s history that the jackpot has passed the billion-dollar mark.

”’Tis the season of giving, and today we’re thrilled to be able to raise the Mega Millions jackpot for the Christmas Eve drawing to $1 billion,” said Joshua Johnston, lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium. “The dream of that sum of money is just so much fun to think about, especially around the holidays, when there’s already a sense of magic in the air. Can you imagine going to bed and then waking up on Dec. 25, checking your ticket and realizing you just won a $1 billion jackpot?”

So, this Christmas Eve you could win the largest Mega Millions jack pot ever offered in the month of December. It begs the question, what would you do with the money?

Our News 6 team spoke with shoppers who are dreaming big this holiday season.

“We’re paying off some loans. We’re going to pay off mom’s house and everything,” said one woman.

Another shopper joked about a few luxurious splurges.

“A few yachts, yeah,” she said. “Maybe a private jet. That would be fun. But honestly more giving back during this time, especially for people who don’t have things that, you know, we have. It’s time for us to be grateful.”

Overall, your chances of winning the big prize are about 1 in 302.5 million.

If won, it would be the largest prize ever offered in December. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

You can watch the drawing during News 6 at 11 p.m.
