PINE HILLS, Fla. – Orange County sheriff’s deputies investigating two drive-by shootings on Wednesday shot and wounded one person and arrested a 16-year-old in a Pine Hills neighborhood, officials said.
The deputy-involved shooting happened in the 5200 block of Montague Place, near Pine Hills Road and Balboa Drive.
The 24-year-old man who was shot by deputies suffered a gunshot wound to his foot and was taken to a hospital, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said. He’s expected to be OK, according to Mina.
According to Mina, no one was injured in the drive-by shootings, which took place around 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday near the same home on San Jose Street.
Mina said deputies tracked the 16-year-old wanted in the drive-by shootings to a residence on Montague Place and found several individuals in the driveway.
The 16-year-old, who was armed with a handgun that had an extended magazine, was ordered to drop the gun, Mina said. Deputies opened fire, striking the 24-year-old man in the foot, Mina said.
The deputies were not injured.
A gun was recovered at the scene, Mina said.
“We anticipate charges against several individuals for the drive-by shootings and this incident,” Mina said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the deputy-involved shooting, and two deputies have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
No other details have been released.
