šŸ›”ļø Bulletproof presidential limo up for auction at Kissimmee car show

ā€˜96 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Presidential Limousine only one available for public ownership

KISSIMMEE, Fla. ā€“ Feelinā€™ presidential?

What if we told you, you can take home your very own fully armored presidential limousine?

You can and itā€™s all part of the worldā€™s largest collector car auction underway in Kissimmee.

ā€œItā€™s historical and itā€™s amazing,ā€ Peter Levy of the Hot Rod Collection said. ā€œThis is one of three vehicles that was commissioned by the U.S. government for the presidential candidates from 1993 through 1996.ā€

This 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Presidential Limousine is the only one currently available for public ownership and was custom built for President Bill Clinton during his administration.

ā€œAs you can see, weā€™ve got the presidential flags indicative of all the presidential limos when it was being utilized. Itā€™s a beautiful timepiece and a piece of history,ā€ Levy said.

The limo is fully armored. The windows are bulletproof.

ā€œThe windows are 3 inches thick and it was a special design requested by the government and General Motors. They worked together to create this vehicle,ā€ Levy said.

The door weighs nearly 400 pounds.

ā€œThe undercoating of this limo is completely steel-plated... inside the casing is a fire retardant system that protects the interior from any gas. Itā€™s the ultimate presidential security machine,ā€ Levy said.

The interior of the limo has a small television connected to a VHS player (do you even know what that is?).

ā€œThe front is the cockpit for the driver, which is pretty standard for a Cadillac, except itā€™s got a control center in the glove compartment has controls the strobe lights like a police car. Thereā€™s also an intercom system and radio. This allowed you to speak through a microphone and speak to secret service,ā€ Levy said.

And under the hood is a custom built engine. Thereā€™s also a noticeable empty space where Levy said housed special equipment that the CIA took out before it was sold originally.

The 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Presidential Limousine will be crossing the auction block on Saturday, Jan. 18. Representatives from Hot Rod Collection wouldnā€™t say how much they expect the limo to go for, but it last sold at auction in 2013 for $275,000 so weā€™ll have to wait and see what the highest bid is.

If youā€™re not in the market for a new ride, you can still check out the presidential limo and even sit inside it.

Itā€™s one of nearly 5,000 unique vehicles part of the Mecum Auction at Osceola Heritage Park. The event runs through Jan. 19. Click HERE for ticket information.
