Man accused of stabbing woman in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A man was arrested by Osceola County deputies on Sunday after a juvenile told dispatchers that “her father was killing her mother,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded around 12 p.m. to an address along West Cedarwood Circle, where they immediately detained Mauro Fernando Rodriguez-Ascue, 42, upon seeing him covered in blood, according to the affidavit for Rodriguez-Ascue’s arrest warrant.

Rodriguez-Ascue was walking away from a vehicle when he was detained, at which point he spontaneously said that he stabbed his wife, the affidavit states. The victim, a 31-year-old woman, was hospitalized for treatment of at least 10 stab wounds that the sheriff’s office said led to her receiving more than 27 stiches. The victim also suffered a fractured spine, the affidavit states.

The affidavit notes Rodriguez-Ascue in December 2024 was given a permanent injunction which states he was to have no contact with the victim and was to go no further than 500 feet of her residence or within 100 feet on her vehicle, among other requirements. Rodriguez-Ascue stated after being read his Miranda rights that he continued to see the victim in spite of the injunction, according to the affidavit.

Further, Rodriguez-Ascue told investigators that the victim had picked him up when he began to ask questions about whether she was still talking to another man, the affidavit states. When Rodriguez-Ascue asked her if he could see messages on her phone, she allegedly told him no; this led to Rodriguez-Ascue threatening her with a knife and throwing her phone at her head, what he claimed caused her to start bleeding profusely, according to the document.

After Rodriguez-Ascue took the victim to his bathroom to clean up the blood, he told investigators that he began to stab her all over her body because he was still upset about not being able to see her phone, the affidavit states. Rodriguez-Ascue stated that “he is not sorry for what he did,” according to the affidavit, adding the weapon he used was a kitchen knife that he retrieved from inside the house prior to meeting the victim in her vehicle.

The vehicle was found to have blood on its doors and on its interior, according to the affidavit. Investigators also took into evidence a blood-covered knife found on the living room floor of the home, noting “a substantial amount of blood” in one of the bathrooms and blood-soaked clothing items on the bathroom floor.

Rodriguez-Ascue faces charges of attempted premeditated murder and violation of a domestic injunction. He’s being held on no bond amount, records show.
