The parade — founded by the Southwest Orlando Jaycees — serves as a reminder of the importance of community service and understanding Dr. King’s dream.
“We need to serve our community. We need to reach back. We need to understand what the dream is all about,” another participant emphasized. “This is what it’s all about and one of our core values is actually doing the right thing, is reaching back and reaching back into community to make sure we do the right thing.”
The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing the message of unity.
“Although we are all unique and different in our own ways, we should all be coming together and remember that we are still a community. We should be sticking together and it’s really important, important to recognize that and to recognize that people can be unique and different and that is wonderful,” shared another attendee. “But when it comes to it, our differences don’t matter. We are all human. We all should be together and everyone should be supporting each other.”
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Orlando continues to be a cherished tradition, celebrating the values of freedom, justice, and democracy while inspiring future generations to carry forward Dr. King’s vision of a united and peaceful world.
