ORLANDO, Fla. – As a blast of cold air blankets Central Florida, cold weather shelters are starting to open across the region.
A chilly breeze will remain in place, with the winds picking up through Tuesday night, reaching 15-25 mph inland and 20-30 mph along the coast, with gusts potentially hitting 40-45 mph, especially in Volusia and Brevard counties.

Because of this, a Wind Advisory and a High Surf advisory will be issued for coastal communities.
Temperatures will stay chilly Tuesday, with highs in the mid- to upper 50s north of Osceola, and warmer temps in the upper 60s along the southern coast.
Below is a list of shelters that are opening in Central Florida because of the cold weather.
BREVARD COUNTY
Based on the current forecast from US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida tonight, Jan. 21, our community partners will be opening cold weather shelters.
Shelter information:
- LifePointe Ministries, Inc. Titusville –Located at 4220 South Hopkins Ave., Titusville. Opens at 5 p.m., serving dinner and breakfast.
- Matthew’s Hope – Located at 825 Forrest Ave., Cocoa. Shelter is open. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
FLAGLER COUNTY
The Sheltering Tree is adding to this week’s openings because of cold overnight temperatures hovering around the mid-30s early for Thursday and Friday (Jan. 23 through Jan. 24).
The shelter operated at the Rock Transformation Center (formerly Church on the Rock) located at 2200 N. State St., Bunnell. It is not only for those experiencing homelessness, but for anyone who is without heat.
The county will provide bus transportation along two routes, following the schedules below:
East side of the county
- Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
- McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
- Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
- Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.
West side of the county
- Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
- Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
- Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)
LAKE COUNTY
Due to an incoming cold front, Lake County will open a cold-weather shelter:
- Jan. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. at LifePointe Church located at 2551 East Orange Avenue in Eustis.

MARION COUNTY
The Salvation Army will have sheltering accommodations in place for the upcoming cold weather for those that need to seek refuge.
Due to lower temperatures, the Salvation Army is prepared for a possible influx of individuals seeking shelter. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office - Emergency Management Division will be working with the Salvation Army and our other community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of those that require the need for cold weather sheltering.
- The Salvation Army – Center of Hope located at 320 NW 1st Ave. in Ocala. Check-in time is at 6:00 p.m.
ORANGE COUNTY
Due to predicted cold weather, Orange County Government will support the Homeless Services Network (HSN) in welcoming residents and people without stable housing to two area Warming Centers. These temporary locations will complement efforts to meet the needs of our homeless population.
The County’s temporary Warming Centers will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 24. They close promptly at 9 a.m. the following mornings.

Transportation:
Regional LYNX buses will provide free rides for individuals seeking transportation to the HSN shelters listed below. Riders must let the LYNX driver know that they need shelter. The LYNX driver will transport those in need to the nearest HSN shelter location.

OSCEOLA COUNTY
Two churches in St. Cloud and Kissimmee are opening their doors as cold-weather shelters for Thursday and Friday nights starting at 6 p.m.

- Iglesia Del Nazareno Casa De Vida
- 2367 Fortune Road, Kissimmee
Anyone needing transportation can use LYNX buses at no cost. Just let the driver know you are going to a cold-weather shelter.
Anyone needing shelter for a pet should call Osceola County Animal Services at 407-742-8000, and press option 4. The shelter will keep pets during the days the cold weather shelter is open. An animal services officer will also transport the pet if needed.
VOLUSIA COUNTY
With colder weather expected Tuesday night, Jan. 21, Volusia County community organizations will open cold-weather shelters to assist residents without adequate heating or housing. Local organizations coordinate these shelters to provide warmth and safety for individuals in need.
- The Bridge, operated by the Neighborhood Center at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand, will welcome guests starting at 6:30 p.m. Guests may stay until approximately 8 a.m. the following morning, with breakfast provided before it closes. For more information about services at The Bridge, contact The Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.
- Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) is working with local churches on the county’s east side to offer cold-weather shelter services. While HUM does not operate its own cold-weather shelter, it partners with multiple churches to ensure individuals have access to shelter. Those needing shelter or transportation to a shelter are encouraged to contact HUM at 386-317-5886 as soon as possible.
