MOUNT DORA, Fla. – The Jane Austen Festival offers a delightful journey into the world of one of literature’s most beloved authors.
Held annually, this festival brings together fans and scholars alike to celebrate the life and works of Jane Austen. With a variety of events and activities, attendees can immerse themselves in the Regency era and experience the charm and wit that Austen’s novels are known for.

One of the highlights of the festival is the hot air balloon ride, offering a thrilling yet serene experience. Participants can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Dora and the local charm of downtown Mount Dora with Sky Pirates Ballooning. The tethered ride provides a unique taste of flight without leaving the ground, making it perfect for all adventurers.
“This year marks Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, so we really wanted to make it special,” Margaret Andersen, a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America, said.
The rides are scheduled for Sunday, February 9th, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Annie Donnelly Park, priced at $30.
In addition to the balloon rides, the festival features an authentic Regency Era dinner based on Rober Tuesley Anderson’s book “Jane Austen’s Table.” Held at the Mount Dora Yacht Club, this dinner offers beautiful views of Lake Dora and a taste of the past.

“We’ll be eating the same food that Jane most likely ate,” Andersen noted.
The dinner, titled “Sunset at the Soiree,” takes place on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 6-7 p.m., with tickets priced at $79.
The festival also includes a range of workshops and lectures. These sessions cover topics from Austen’s literary techniques to the social customs of her time. Experts and enthusiasts share their insights, making it an enriching experience for all who attend.
“There are three pieces of jewelry that still exist that Jane Austen wore,” Andersen said. “I’m really excited about a workshop where one woman is coming to teach us how to make her bracelet.”
