ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida’s culinary scene is in the spotlight as several local chefs and restaurants have been named semifinalists for the prestigious 2025 James Beard Awards.

This recognition highlights the region’s growing reputation as a hub for innovative and exceptional dining experiences.

In the category of Outstanding Restaurateur, Sue Chin and Jason Chin of Good Salt Restaurant Group have been acknowledged for their work with popular Orlando establishments such as Seito Sushi, Reyes Mezcaleria, and The Osprey, among others. Their dedication to quality and creativity has earned them a well-deserved place among the nation’s top restaurateurs.

For Best Chef: South, which includes states like Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico, two Orlando chefs have made the list. Lordfer Lalicon of Kaya and Sean “Sonny” Nguyen of Domu are both celebrated for their culinary expertise and unique contributions to the local dining scene.

In the category of Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker, Yohann Le Bescond from Ocala has been recognized for his exceptional skills and artistry in pastry making. Le Bescond gained national attention through his appearance on the Food Network show “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking,” where his magical creations wowed audiences.

Finally, in the Best New Restaurant category, Ômo by Jônt in Winter Park has been highlighted as a standout newcomer. The restaurant’s innovative approach and commitment to excellence have quickly made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

These nominations not only celebrate the talent and hard work of Central Florida’s culinary professionals but also underscore the area’s growing influence in the national food scene. The James Beard Awards ceremony will take place in Chicago in June, and the community eagerly anticipates the results while continuing to support its local culinary stars.
