Florida trooper shoots, kills suspect at Ocala hospital, officials say

FDLE investigates incident at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital

OCALA, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper fatally shot a suspect during an altercation early Friday in the emergency department of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, authorities said.

The Ocala Police Department said a police detail officer requested assistance at the hospital.

“A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a physical altercation with a suspect in custody, which resulted in FHP using deadly force,” Ocala police posted on Facebook.

Authorities have not shared any details about the suspect of how they were killed.

No law enforcement officers or hospital staff members were injured.

Later Friday, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital released a statement about the incident.

“We are assisting state and local police in their investigations of the incident that occurred early this morning in the hospital’s emergency department. We are also providing support and counseling to patients and colleagues who were present or may have been affected by the incident,” the statement said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate trooper’s use of deadly force.

No other details have been released.
