SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A ceremony will be held Friday at a Seminole County fire station to honor Mason Brown, who helped save his father-in-law’s life several months ago, according to the fire department.

Around 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Sanford, 61-year-old Randy Youngblood suffered severe cardiac arrest, firefighters said, noting Youngblood’s mother had died a day earlier from cardiac arrest.

Youngblood’s family was already gathered when the medical event happened, and while his daughter Cayla quickly dialed 911, his son-in-law, Brown, performed CPR until the Seminole County Fire Department arrived, a news release states.

Responding units used defibration and other life-saving protocols to stabilize Youngblood and hospitalize him, putting him on a path to recovery, according to the release.

Brown will receive a Citizens Life Saving Award for his role in the chain of his father-in-law’s survival, firefighters said.

The ceremony — which will also honor Seminole County Dispatcher MiKayala Kruse, as well as several crewmembers — is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Station 41, the release states.
