Man indicted on murder charge after woman’s body found along Brevard County road

Travion Dean charged with 1st-degree murder, tampering with evidence

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 22-year-old man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend in Brevard County has been indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder.

A grand jury on Tuesday charged Travion Dean with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of 20-year-old Aniya Sheppard, whose body was found on Nov. 4, 2024, along Eber Boulevard near Buddy Drive in West Melbourne.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said the two were staying at a motel nearby when they left together the morning of Nov. 4 and were picked up by a rideshare service. Deputies said the vehicle dropped them off near Eber Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard.

“Agents uncovered that Dean contacted another rideshare service shortly after the shooting, which picked him up on Minton Road and drove him back to the motel alone,” deputies said.

Deputies also said they had found video surveillance of Dean leaving the motel while carrying Sheppard’s personal property.

Sheppard’s family members told investigators the two were “toxic and violent with a history of (Dean) and (Sheppard) pointing firearms at each other,” the affidavit states.

The sheriff’s office said after Sheppard was killed, Dean used her Instagram to send a message to her sister that she was shot by someone she had previously been in a relationship with and asked the sister to call police.

Dean was arrested earlier this month in Fort Lauderdale after he returned from a trip to Jamaica.
