“This is all about the future,” Demings said. “It’s a multi-generational project that is all about positivity and making Tangelo Park the community that it can be.”

During the construction phase, the old YMCA building will be renovated to include an indoor basketball court. The new community center will feature an outdoor swimming pool, computer lab, and several multi-purpose rooms, enhancing the neighborhood’s amenities.

Samuel Butler, a Tangelo Park resident for over 50 years, emphasized the opportunities the center will bring.

“It’s going to be able to provide a place to come learn and grow,” Butler said. “This is going to provide a safe environment. It’s going to provide a place for the entire family.”

Construction on the community action center is expected to last about a year and the projected opening date is in January 2026.
