ORLANDO, Fla. – While the month of February is often associated with Valentine’s Day, it is also Heart Health Awareness Month.
The month serves as a great opportunity to pay extra attention to your heart health and schedule doctor’s appointments to check up on potential heart issues.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, affecting men, women, and people of all races and ethnic groups.
These are some fast heart health facts:
- One person dies every 33 seconds from a cardiovascular disease
- One in 20 adults over 20 years old have coronary artery disease (CAD)
- About 805,000 people suffer from heart attacks every year
Most heart diseases are known as “silent killers,” so it is important that you visit your physician every year for checkups to ensure your heart is still healthy.

Who is at risk for heart disease? Individuals who have:
- high blood pressure
- high blood cholesterol
- diabetes
- obesity
- unhealthy diet
- excessive alcohol use
- excessive smoking
To show your support for heart health, wear red on the first Friday of February. This year, that day falls on Feb. 7.
The American Heart Association will host the annual Orlando Go Red for Women event at the Loews Sapphire Falls on Friday, Feb. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to bring awareness to the risk that women face with heart health issues.
