ORLANDO, Fla. – Some University of Central Florida students have expressed their concern following the publication of a photo and article in the student-run Knight News.
The article accuses a fraternity on campus of using hate symbols during a hazing ritual. The controversial photo depicts a blindfolded student holding what appears to be a swastika symbol, with the student’s face obscured.
Andrew Rollins, a reporter for Knight News, stated, “UCF told us that the national chapter put them on suspension.”
Rollins, who authored the article, revealed to News 6 that the information was obtained from an anonymous tip. The fraternity implicated in the incident is Phi Gamma Delta, and the photo in question dates back to 2023. Attempts to obtain a comment from the fraternity were unsuccessful, as their president declined to speak on the matter.
“It’s disturbing honestly. And again, I’m just glad we can educate the public on what happened,” Rollins said. “I also want to keep a close eye on how the fraternity and UCF are handling it. It shouldn’t be swept under the rug.”
In response to the allegations, UCF confirmed they are reviewing the incident. A university spokesperson stated, “This incident will not deter us from our mission to provide a welcoming, safe campus environment for every student.”
The situation continues to unfold as both the fraternity and the university navigate the repercussions of these serious allegations.
