ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies responding to a reported burglary late Saturday fatally shot a knife-wielding man they saw inside of a home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded around 11:30 p.m. to the 100 block of W. Castle Street, where from the backyard they could see two men in a physical altercation inside of the home, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
One of the men was holding a knife and did not comply with several commands from deputies to drop it, the release states. Two deputies then fired their service weapons at the man, striking him, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies rendered aid until paramedics arrived to take the man to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release.
Both of the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on temporary paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review before the sheriff’s office then conducts its own internal investigation, the release states.
