MELBOURNE, Fla. – Two Florida women are recovering back in the Sunshine State after they were attacked by a shark while on vacation last week in the Bahamas, according to NBC News.
According to NBC and a Facebook post by Dave Decker, his daughter, Rileigh Decker, 20, and Summer Layman, 24, were swimming Friday in Bimini Bay, a resort area about 50 nautical miles off the coast of Florida, when the attack occurred.

The women jumped into the water off a yacht and were attacked by what they believe was a bull shark as they swam back to the boat’s ladder.
They were pulled onto the boat by family and friends, who wrapped a tourniquet around Decker’s right leg and found Layman’s foot “shredded.”
Decker and Layman were treated locally and airlifted to a hospital in the Bahamas before being flown back to Brevard County, where they continue to recover.
“We’re just very grateful to still be here with all of our limbs,” Decker told NBC’s TODAY show.
The Bahamas have had 34 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks since record keeping began, according to the Florida Museum’s international shark attack database.
