Central Florida student a finalist for AI-driven, eco-friendly bee protection project

Atreya Manaswi joins Breakfast With Bridgett

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tuesday on Breakfast With Bridgett, a local student shared the story behind his award-winning work to defend honeybee hives from invasive pests the green way.

Atreya Manaswi says he was inspired by a visit to a friend’s family apiary six years ago. He researched and developed an AI-driven, eco-friendly alternative to pesticides to protect hives.

“I really want to get this product out there and really highlight the importance of sustainable agriculture and innovative research solutions,” Manaswi said.

“In this case, the solution was equally effective as the leading pesticide, while significantly cheaper and having none of those drawbacks with insecticide resistance or use of handling.”

The senior at Orlando Science Middle-High School will head to Washington, D.C., next month for the the Regeneron Science Talent Search where college scholarships will be awarded to the finalists.
