JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The body of a U.K. tourist who disappeared after a Florida taxi ride over two years ago was finally uncovered earlier this month over the border in Georgia, according to the FBI.
In a release, investigators said that the tourist — 32-year-old Alex Doughty — was visiting North Florida in September 2022, which is when his mother contacted local police and reported she couldn’t reach him and was concerned about his well-being.

Since then, investigators at the local, state and federal level have contributed to the search for his whereabouts.
According to a missing person’s report by LBT Global, Doughty had last been seen on Sept. 11, 2022, at Bay Street Bar and Grill along East Bay Street in Jacksonville.

“He then got into a taxi, which dropped him in Kingsland, Georgia at around 4:30 p.m.,” the report reads. “He has not been seen since.”
But on Feb. 4, Doughty’s remains were located in a wooded area on private land near Kingsland in Georgia, FBI officials announced.
“While we had hoped to bring Mr. Doughty’s family better news, we are thankful to be able to provide them with some closure,” said Special Agent in Charge Kristin Rehler. “This discovery is the direct result of our partnerships and special agents from FBI Jacksonville’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team, who were relentless in their efforts to narrow down potential search locations.”
Investigators added that despite the search results, the Doughty family extended thanks to the volunteers and law enforcement officers who pursued Doughty’s whereabouts.
