Homicide investigation underway in Sumter County after body found in vehicle after traffic stop

Incident happened in Wildwood near High Street

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – An investigation is underway after a person was killed in Wildwood, according to a press release.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said they are assisting the Wildwood Police Department “in a homicide investigation which occurred near High Street” earlier on Monday.

According to the release, at some point, a BOLO was issued for a vehicle involved in the incident, and a deputy conducted a traffic stop.

Deputies said they are searching for a man who was last seen walking into the woods near the scene of the stop near South U.S. 301 and C.R. 673, south of Bushnell.

According to the release, the person’s involvement in the homicide investigation is unknown, and deputies ask that people do not approach him. Instead, contact 911 immediately and report any sightings.
