Empty car fished from lake in Winter Park. It turned out to be stolen

WINTER PARK, Fla. – An empty car was fished out of a lake in Winter Park on Wednesday, prompting questions about what happened, according to the police department.

In a release, officers said they responded to the area of Lake Knowles Circle and Temple Drive around 12:12 p.m. after receiving a report about the sunken car.

“A submerged vehicle was observed in Lake Knowles approximately 40 feet from the shore line,” the release reads. “The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Dive team was notified and responded to the scene.”

Upon searching the vehicle, though, investigators said they found it was empty.

However, investigators discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Seminole County back in August 2024, police announced.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including the nature of the theft or the identity of any potential suspect.
