TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the early completion of the NASA Causeway Bridge in Brevard County, marking a significant milestone for the region’s infrastructure.

Spanning 4,025 feet over the Indian River, the bridge will connect the mainland to the Kennedy Space Center and is expected to enhance transportation for both residents and the ever-growing space industry. The first of the two bridges was completed 125 days ahead of schedule in 2023 and has already supported over 1,000 space industry transports.

The $128 million project was made possible through a strong partnership between FDOT, NASA, and Space Florida. The completion comes six months ahead of schedule. The first of the two bridges was completed 125 days ahead of schedule in 2023.

Gov. DeSantis highlighted the bridge’s completion as a testament to the state’s push to further the space industry in Florida. On Friday, Florida Republican U.S. senators Ashley Moody and Rick Scott announced a bill to relocate NASA headquarters to Florida.

“This project reflects our dedication to improving infrastructure and fostering economic development in Florida,” said DeSantis.

The goal of this new bridge is to help improve traffic flow. It should work to reduce heavy congestion for the thousands of workers commuting to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station now back to in-office work for a full five days.

“The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) worked closely with our space industry partners and our local communities to meet their vision for the area and their transportation needs,” said FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “This NASA Causeway Bridge project along with the Space Commerce Way widening project will support the growing workforce and evolving needs of this community and our state long into the future.”

Residents of Brevard County should also benefit from the early completion of the bridge. The improved infrastructure will likely lead to increased property values and attract new businesses, contributing to the region’s economic vitality.

The completion is also a strategic move to accommodate future growth. As the space industry evolves, the demand for efficient transportation and logistics solutions will rise. The NASA Causeway Bridge is to support this demand, ensuring the Space Coast remains a hub for innovation and exploration.
