SANFORD, Fla. – A man was arrested Monday in connection to a 2022 shooting in Sanford that left one person dead and another injured, according to police.

The shooting happened in November 2022 at the Hatteras Sound Apartments, where officers arrived on the scene to find a parked car heavily damaged by gunfire.
Sanford police said they found Isaiah Diaz, 18, dead in the vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds.
There were two others in the vehicle, one who was hospitalized from gunshots and another who was not hurt, according to officers.
An initial investigation found that multiple people approached the vehicle with semi-automatic guns and opened fire, officials said.
Investigators later found six suspects caught on surveillance cameras six days before the incident at the apartments.
The police department said the suspects recorded on surveillance cameras were seen “openly carrying firearms and moving in the same calculated manner displayed the day of the homicide.”
At least three of the six suspects appeared on the day of the shooting, police said.
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith called the incident at the time a “cold and calculated assault” and said it was “miraculous” that the other two victims in the vehicle survived.
The incident appears to be isolated and the investigation remains ongoing, investigators said.
Anyone with information about the homicide or the suspects is asked to contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477). Tips that lead to solving the crime can receive up to a $5,000 reward.
