BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A K-9 with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office died Tuesday after a “long and courageous battle” with cancer, according to the sheriff.
Junny started with the sheriff’s office in 2014, with a mission to search for missing children and older persons with dementia. In 2018, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Junny "took on the role of being our mascot and my partner."
“He was the most loyal and loving dog who loved our citizens and being our agency’s mascot!! Junny was not only an ambassador to our agency, but he carried on the legacy of Junny Rios-Martinez who was abducted and murdered in 1991 here in Brevard County!!” Ivey said on social media.
Ivey described Junny as being “spoiled rotten,” joining the sheriff at schools, events and hanging out at the sheriff’s office.
"And of course, he loved BBQ and ice cream!!" the sheriff wrote.
According to Ivey, the sheriff’s office opened an animal medical center in February named after Junny.
“My heart is broken but I know how blessed I am to have Junny in my life and to have received so much joy and love as a result of having him as my partner!!” Ivey said on social media. “... Rest easy Bud Bud, you will always be in my heart!!”
