ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Altamonte Springs Police Department has sworn in its new chief, Terence Nicolas.

Nicolas joined the police department in 2004 and has held key leadership positions since, such as DEA Task Force Agent, Special Investigations Lieutenant and Commander of the Special Operations and Investigations Divisions, the agency said March 19 on social media.

He additionally served as a member of the Seminole County SWAT Team and in 2022 was appointed deputy chief, the post states.

Nicolas is currently completing a master’s degree at the University of Central Florida, having already earned a degree in Criminal Justice from UCF and a graduate certificate in Law Enforcement Education from the University of Virginia, all on top of graduating from the FBI National Academy.

The post goes on to recognize the more-than 30 years of service by outgoing Chief James Riggs, whom the police department hopes will enjoy a well-earned retirement.
