Lady Luck: Polk County woman wins $5M prize playing Florida Lottery scratch-off game

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk County woman won a $5 million prize from a scratch-off game, according to Florida Lottery.

Helen Matthews, 59, of Lake Wales, opted to receive her winnings on Friday as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,960,000, a Florida Lottery news release states.

Matthews bought the winning “GOLD RUSH LIMITED” ticket from the Murphy USA at 2048 Sam Walton Way in Lake Wales, according to the release.

The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket, the release states.

“GOLD RUSH LIMITED” is a $20 game that launched in September 2021 and features 32 top prizes of $5 million, 100 prizes of $1 million and more than 33,000 prizes ranging from $1,000 to $100,000, Florida Lottery said, adding the game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-2.65.
