OCALA, Fla. – A Florida man who was inside an Ocala laundromat when it exploded last year is suing the owners for the explosion, along with the companies that installed the gas plumbing system for the business.

The explosion happened last August at the Classic Laundromat and Dry Cleaner on NE 25th Avenue. Four people were hurt, including Ismael Regis, who filed the lawsuit through Morgan & Morgan.

Regis said the explosion knocked him to the ground, causing serious burns and a head injury.

The explosion impacted seven adjacent shops in the strip plaza and sent debris flying.

Ocala fire officials considered issues with the natural gas system as a reason for the explosion. Several witnesses reported smelling gas.

The lawsuit complaint accuses the owners of negligence regarding the natural gas systems in the business, saying they either knew or should have known, through proper maintenance, that there was a problem.

In addition to suing the laundromat’s owners, he is suing the owners of the building, the natural gas distributor, and the companies responsible for installing the natural gas plumbing system.
