Sumter deputies arrest man accused of running from crash near Florida National Cemetery

Crash happened in area of CR 476B and I-75

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Sumter County deputies have arrested a man accused of running away from a crash near the Florida National Cemetery on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they assisted the Florida Highway Patrol in the area of Interstate 75 and County Road 476B while they tried to “locate a driver their troopers were in pursuit of.” The driver was thought to be possibly armed when he allegedly ran away from the crash, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

According to the post, the driver crashed during a pursuit. He had last been seen traveling toward the Florida National Cemetery on foot, the post states.

The suspect, 26-year-old Tayvone Johnson, was located in the area of County Road 673 and arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

News of Johnson’s arrest came Thursday morning and followed the sheriff’s office’s announcement that three subjects were already in custody and the call had been cleared, the post states.

No further information was made available at the time of this report, such as which charges Johnson may face.
