AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The driver behind a hit-and-run spree in Auburndale died in a crash on Tuesday morning, according to the police department.
In a release, police said that they responded to a “series of traffic incidents” that started with a hit-and-run crash along Berkley Road around 3:57 a.m.

According to police, the first hit-and-run crash involved a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander — driven by a man named Robert Felton, 42 — that struck the back of a car heading south on Berkley Road.
“Felton fled the crash scene on foot toward the Westside Ridge community,” the release reads.

Afterward, a resident of the community responded to the crash scene while riding a golf art, which is when the resident encountered Felton, investigators explained.
At that time, Felton removed the resident from the golf cart and drove it away from the area north along Berkley Road, the release states.
However, Felton again crashed, this time striking a Chevrolet Colorado. Police said the crash caused Felton to fall out of the golf cart and “laid motionless on the roadway.”
“After the impact, the third victim exited his vehicle to check on Felton,” the release reads. “Felton then got up from the roadway and attempted to steal the Chevrolet Colorado.”

But when the Colorado driver tried to stop Felton, he struck the other driver with an “unknown object” before getting in the Colorado and once more fleeing the scene, police announced.
Soon after, Felton crashed yet again into a 2024 Hyundai Sonata, making this his third hit-and-run incident, police said.
This time, though, Felton lost control of the Colorado and struck a tree on Strickland Lane near Berkley Road, which caused Felton to be ejected from the stolen car, according to investigators.
Felton was pronounced dead at the scene, and all four victims in the spree sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the police department revealed.
“The investigation remains active, with officers reviewing surveillance footage and witness accounts,” the release continues.
