ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A local food pantry and community resource organization is in need of food donations for its food pantries.

Hope CommUnity Center, recently put out a call to action asking for food donations to help address shortages in their food pantries.

The organization has two locations in Apopka, and each one has a food pantry.

People who work in the Hope CommUnity Center tell us even though the pantries are open one day a week and are typically used for emergency situations, they still get people coming in every day asking for food.

“This is a call for the community to help us because right now we are very short in the pantry about our supporters and donors,” said Director of Programs and Integration, Nilka Melendez. “I think the situation around the world and here, you know, local, it’s affecting us and it’s more of a necessity, you know, for the community.”

According to a social media post from the organization, they said because of rising food costs, economic uncertainty and cuts to federal programs, the need is greater than ever.

The organization is collecting the following items:

  • Dried and canned beans - black and pinto beans
  • Plain white rice
  • Cereal - both small and big boxes
  • Pancake mix
  • Pancake syrup
  • Maseca corn flour
  • Other corn flour (not cornmeal)
  • White flour
  • Canned tuna fish
  • Canned chicken
  • Shelf stable milk
  • Pre-packaged tortillas
  • Snack bars/granola bars
