ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida has confirmed that 15 students have had their visas revoked amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on visa holders.

News about these revocations comes after the university partnered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier this month.

On Wednesday, UCF officials told News 6 that 15 of the university’s students have had their visas revoked since March 25, with one of those students being detained.

“As part of our standard operating procedures, the university runs a regular report in SEVIS... utilized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,” UCF officials wrote.

According to UCF, one of the following three reasons was given for each student’s visa termination:

  • “Individual Identified in Criminal Record Check/Otherwise Failing to Maintain Status”
  • “Pursuant INA237(a)(1)(i) and 237(a)(4xcxi)/Otherwise Failing to Maintain Status"
  • “OTHER - Individual identified in criminal records check and/or has had their VISA revoked”

“Once the university is aware that a student’s SEVIS record has been terminated, we reach out to relay that information to the student and advise they leave the country,” UCF officials explained.

Last month, the U.S. Department of State issued a notice on social media, warning that the agency keeps tabs on visa holders to ensure they follow the country’s laws and immigration rules.

“And we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t,” the notice reads.

The Associated Press reported last week that over 1,000 international students have had their visas or legal status revoked in recent weeks. That figure includes students attending Florida International University, Florida State University, and the University of Florida.
