ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A group of Evans High School students participated in a day of service for their school on Saturday.
They showed up bright and early, participating in a community cleanup both on and off campus, writing letters of appreciation to teachers and bracelet making for children who are patients at Orlando Health.

Some students were sent to lay down mulch while others picked up trash along Pine Hills and Silver Star roads.
Dr. Kenya Nelson-Warren is the principal of Evans and said Saturday’s cleanup day fostered teamwork and accountability among students to keep their school and community clean.
“Well, you know at the end of the day, there’s always something that’s bigger than themselves and so that’s what you try to instill in our students,” Nelson-Warren said. “If you can think outside of yourself, then that’s where integrity and giving back is.”

Nelson-Warren also said another part of what made the day so special is that most of the students had Grad Bash the night before, which she said didn’t end until around 2 a.m.
She said despite the late night, many of them showed up early Saturday morning to give back to their community.
