ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A SWAT raid at a drug house in Orange County resulted in a deputy-involved shooting, leaving one man dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a release, deputies said that the SWAT team served a search warrant in a drug case at the home around 2:20 p.m., located at 5614 Lejune Drive.
“A couple of weeks ago, deputies were called to this home for a domestic violence incident,” the release reads. “While conducting that investigation, they found a trafficking amount of fentanyl and two loaded guns — one of which was stolen."
Deputies said they’d confiscated the drugs and firearms, but Friday’s warrant was aimed at letting deputies search the home further for any more drugs, guns, cash, and cell phones.
But as the SWAT team entered and tried to clear the area of danger, they ran into a man in a bedroom, who reached behind a door where a rifle was located, deputies added.
Per investigators, a deputy then fired on the man, who was struck and later taken to the hospital. He died just before 3 p.m.
“These types of warrants are very high risk for our deputies, and this case illustrates that,” the release continues. “That’s why the SWAT team conducts these searches.”
No additional information has been provided at this time, including the identity of the killed man.
