BUFFALO, NY. – A Ukrainian man was denied entry to Canada and arrested Wednesday on a warrant out of Orange County for attempted murder, according to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).
Ruslan Chernotkach, 48, was handed over to Buffalo police and is awaiting extradition in the custody of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at the time of this report, a CBP news release states.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office described the case to News 6.
Deputies responded around 2 a.m. March 9 to the 7600 block of Clementine Way regarding a “discharged weapon,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The deputies encountered two men who said that another man known to them had fired a weapon in their direction, the statement reads. No injuries were reported, deputies said.
CBP officers took Chernotkach into custody after a check of the National Crime Information Center turned up the warrant, according to the release.
