Fried tweeted Tuesday afternoon, saying, “It’s time to break the rigged, corrupt system in Florida with #SomethingNew. That’s why I’m running for Governor.”

Fried alluded to the run when she tweeted May 12, saying an announcement was coming June 1.

In that video, Fried referred to Gov. Ron DeSantis as an “authoritarian dictator” and said it’s “becoming clearer and clearer that Ron DeSantis needs to be a one-term governor.”

Fried joins U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist and six other Democrats running against DeSantis, although many speculate the Florida governor may have his eyes on a run for the White House.

As of Tuesday, state records show Republican Mercadante, John Joseph and two no-party affiliate candidates also vying for the top seat in Florida.
