Florida, long known as a critical swing state, has solidified its position as a Republican stronghold.
In the 2024 election, the Sunshine State turned a deep shade of red, contributing to the historic election of the first Florida resident to the White House.
As the nation prepares for President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration, excitement builds among Florida Republicans. Local party leaders, including Erin Huntley, Alicia Farrant, and Joan Towles-Matthews, are gearing up for the journey to Washington, D.C., where they’ll join busloads of fellow Floridians braving the cold to witness history.
Huntley, chair of the Orange County Republican Party, shared the logistical challenge for Floridians: “We’ll be outside for maybe eight hours that morning, so everyone is worried about staying warm.”

Alicia Farrant, Orange County Public School Board Member, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m super excited to be a part of history and see President Trump come into office one more time.”
Florida’s influence on the Republican Party has surged, with more than 1 million new registered Republicans since 2020.
Inauguration tickets are in high demand, with some counties organizing large contingents. Brigitte Smith, Marion County Republican chair, highlighted the excitement.
“This is Florida, which is Trump country. Everyone wants tickets. I’m going with six people myself,” she said.
Amid heightened security due to recent threats, attendees expect an unprecedented law enforcement presence. Despite potential inconveniences, local leaders are confident in the preparations.
“Security will be bothersome, but it’s all for a good reason,” Towles-Matthews said.
