Four Republicans vied to be the party nominee to replace Fine in a special general election to be held on June 10. That triggered the primary happening on Tuesday.
The four candidates were:
- Dr. Marcie Adkins, an economist
- Mark Lightner III, a University of North Florida business graduate
- State Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-District 32
Of the candidates, Mayfield won the state Senate District 19 primary election with over 60% of the vote.
She will face Democrat Vance Ahrens in the June 10 general election, which is open to all voters in the district, regardless of party affiliation.
Mayfield’s decision to run for Florida Senate means someone now needs to be elected to fill her Florida House District 32 seat.
