KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday said work on fixing a notorious section of Interstate 4 that is plagued by regular backups is ahead of schedule.
At a Monday news conference in Osceola County, DeSantis said congestion relief plans along I-4 near Champions Gate and Celebration will be ready eight months earlier than projected.
Extra lanes of I-4, from U.S. 27 to World Drive, will open at the end of the month, DeSantis said.
The project is a part of a $2.5 billion expansion of I-4 from Polk County to Orange County.
“This will really be a sigh of relief for a lot of people,” DeSantis said. It doesn’t solve everything, we got a lot of other Champions Gate projects and Poinciana Parkway, (but) it’s all moving."
