Residents take concerns to Rep. Daniel Webster event in Apopka. Here’s what they said

APOPKA, Fla. – News 6 has been hearing from many viewers with concerns about cuts to the federal government, including concerns about potential changes to social security, veterans’ benefits, the IRS, and more.

On Wednesday afternoon, News 6 went to Apopka City Hall, where a representative from Congressman Daniel Webster’s office was meeting with constituents.

Our camera was not allowed inside the meeting, but we did meet a handful of people outside who said they received an e-mail this week notifying them about the event and wanted to show up to share their concerns.

Many people told us they were hoping to speak with the congressman directly and that their concerns would be heard.

“I’m really concerned about the Department of Education, honestly, among other things, but that one’s a big one,” said Krystle Nieves Crux.

“Honestly, I thought it was going to be a town hall and I would have just asked the representative, ‘hey, can I have five minutes of your microphone so I could tell everybody about this?’ And obviously that couldn’t occur because that was not this kind of a deal,” said Charles Eastwood.

“I’m a veteran and the VA cuts to the veterans, technical security, all the other just thrashing of our government going,” said Central Florida resident Bob Horner, describing his concerns.

The representative from Congressman Webster’s office was not willing to speak on camera with News 6, but instead referred us to the congressman’s spokesperson.

Spokesperson Adan Pakledinaz told News 6 that mobile office hours have been held since Webster began representing Orange County in 2023.

The congressman’s staff says it will be at Apopka City Hall the third Wednesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m.
