ORLANDO, Fla. – This week on “Black Men Sundays,” host Corie Murray shares part two of his interview with Ty Woods, a serial entrepreneur, business coach and consultant who specializes in grants and wants to use her expertise to lift up small-business owners.
Woods emphasized the importance of establishing a value system which prioritizes family over money, a decision that’s guided her actions and choices especially when it comes to balancing business and personal life.
“When you say, ‘How important was it for me to be able to pay myself a salary and to be able to have the freedom?’ We first started out with what the value system was for our family and we said, ‘Well, family will come first for us. Family will come first before the grind,’” Woods said. “(...) I know what it’s like to not have money. And I know what it’s like to have money. And having money is so much easier.”

Money is a tool, Woods says, a means to an end rather than an end itself. It’s a perspective which lends itself to Woods’ philanthropy and community support, given how she sees money as a strategic resource to use in pursuit of larger goals like her “One Million, One Billion” initiative.
“Let’s say I sell BusinessGrants.com for $100 million, which is my goal, right? OK. I sell it for $100 million. Now what? OK, I got the money. I could tell you now that the money is not going to be a satisfier for me. It’s just going to be a catalyst, a tool, for me. I could lose it all, I don’t care. Money for me is a tool. I don’t have no unhealthy attachment to it,” she said.
